A Career in Sonography
Not only do medical facilities provide the x-rays that many of us are familiar with, but medicine has progressed to the point of 3-D and 4-D technology in which images of the internal workings of the patient's body can be viewed in three and four-dimensional pictures. Incredibly, accurate and clear pictures can be viewed of babies that are still in uterus. Parents are now able to see resemblances between mom and dad when the baby not yet born.

Sonographers use magnetic resonance imaging better known as MRI, and ultrasound equipment to take "pictures" of the affected areas of the body to provide information about anomalies found in the cardiac, abdomen, obstetrical, mammography, or in neurosurgery procedures. You will learn to uses ionizing radiation, radio waves, and sound waves to generate images for diagnoses of medical conditions. You will learn to determine image quality for interpretation by the physician, take measurement, calculate values, and provide findings, so that proper treatment can be administered.

It is essential to acquire the appropriate training in order to work in this field. Schools of sonography provide the opportunity to earn an associate's or bachelor's degree. Course work includes study in anatomy, physiology, patient care, HIPPA requirements, medical ethics, along with a plethora of related instructions.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics states that there will be a high demand for staff with these skills because of the growing population of elderly. You can prepare now for an interesting and lucrative career in healthcare.
